Confirmation (EnterMission)

Peace youth begin formal confirmation instruction at the beginning of sixth grade. Peace utilizes Head to the Heart, a confirmation curriculum designed by Lutheran pastor Rich Melheim and published by Faith Inkubators. Students in grades six through nine meet on Wednesday evenings. Topics covered include Old Testament overview, New Testament overview, The Lord’s Prayer, the Apostles’ Creed, the Ten Commandments, Martin Luther, baptism, communion, and the Lutheran confessions.

During the summer between eighth and ninth grade students recite memory work including the books of the Bible, the Ten Commandments and Luther’s meanings from his Small Catechism, the Apostles’ Creed and Luther’s meanings from the Small Catechism, and the traditional and ecumenical versions of The Lord’s Prayer. During this time confirmation candidates also complete a confirmation project which is an expression of their faith.

During the winter the youth attend a retreat called Youth Quake in Des Moines which is a highlight as well as the fall and spring monthly activities.

Service projects and fellowship events are an integral part of the confirmation experience at Peace. Monthly students meet to participate in service projects and fellowship events.

Class trips are also part of the confirmation experience. Seventh grade students spend a week with the Pastor at Ewalu Camp and Retreat Center near Strawberry Point. Eighth grade students go on a service, worship and fellowship weekend Urban Plunge Trip in Des Moines. Ninth grade students who have fulfilled the requirements are recommended to the Peace Council by the pastor for the rite of confirmation. The rite takes place at worship on the first Sunday of November (All Saints Sunday).

Confirmation meets every Wednesday during the school year at 6:45pm.
