Sherry Maakestad - Faith Formation Director
Sherry Maakestad coordinates Peace's Faith Formation programs, with the help of a Youth Assistant, and many committed lay people working within the youth and education programs.
She started in this capacity on October 1, 2007 after moving back to Pella with her husband, Mike, and three daughters, Hannah, Kirsten, and Sara.
Sherry's hometown is Atlantic, Iowa, and she received her B.S. in Child Development from Iowa State University. She also has numerous years of experience in teaching kindergarten, directing preschools, directing youth programs within the Lutheran church, and serving in a Family Ministry capacity.
Sherry followed the call to work at Peace because she is so passionate about sharing her faith and encouraging others in the Christian faith. She feels especially called to serve within family ministries because of the great need to offer parents resources and support both in parenting and in raising children in homes where faith is nurtured.
Dwight DuBois-Interim Pastor
Pastor DuBois has been serving Peace since February of 2016. He is an interim—a pastor between pastors—who is called to help the congregation refocus and re-energize as we prepare to call a new pastor.
Pastor DuBois has served congregations in Mississippi, South Carolina, and Iowa. His last full-time call (before becoming an interim) was as the director of Grand View University’s Center for Renewal—an outreach program designed to reconnect Grand View with the church. He recently published the book The Scattering: Imagining a Church that Connects Faith and Life. In addition to being our interim pastor, he is also helping to lead the ELCA’s Life of Faith Initiative, and he serves as a speaker and workshop leader for a variety of events.
Pastor DuBois and his wife live in Des Moines. He is usually in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons, as well as Sunday morning.
Note: Pastor David Ruhe also serves the congregation during the interim by leading worship and preaching one Sunday per month.
